DEAF MINISTRY
OneTribe Church is an inclusive church to people of all backgrounds and abilities. Every Sunday, we engage a Kenyan Sign Language interpreter for our Sunday meetings translation. We also engage them on all other church events and activities to ensure our Deaf Community participation and inclusion.
Every Sunday after the service, the Deaf Community meets as a Life Group for a more in depth Bible Study, discipleship as well as fellowship and encouragement.
As part of our integration efforts within the church community, the Deaf Life Group have been organizing Sign Language Course which will be resuming sessions very SOON on Zoom during a weekday evening. We request for generous donations for those who sign up or those who would like to support this initiative.
If you are interested in learning more about the Sign Language Course or participate in OneTribe's Deaf Ministry, please contact our Deaf Community Leader (Rose Omollo) on +254 717 148 352 or the church office at +254 798 363 475.

UPGs & deaf Barista
According to Joshua Project;
UN Country Population in 2020 indicates that Kenya has 53,771,000 people.
OneTribe Church through HAKI (our Social Justice ministry) has been on a mission to empower the Deaf Community as one of our focus groups and further on, our 2021 mission has been on Unreached People Groups which includes the Deaf People.
In April 2021 OneTribe sponsored 4 deaf people (2 ladies and 2 gents) to be professionally trained at Coffee Connect as top-notch Baristas for two weeks. The training modules covered coffee processing, roasting, milk science, sensory skills, espresso extraction, manual extraction, cafe management and latte art. One of the remarkable feedback on the deaf baristas from the trainers was the excellent sense of taste and keen eye to details during the practical lessons. OneTribe is in the process of setting up a Coffee shop where the Deaf Baristas will brew and serve world class coffee. This will be an aspect of our discipleship model as we strive to create awareness of talents to be tapped in persons with disability as well as our efforts towards being an inclusive community and inspiring Nairobi city towards the same. Our future plan is to train more Deaf people who are interested in becoming Baristas as well as explore other empowerment opportunities for those with different passions in life.
UN Country Population in 2020 indicates that Kenya has 53,771,000 people.
- There are 110 People Groups in Kenya and 32 categorized as Unreached People Groups (approximately 5,790,000)
- Further on, there are 403,000 Deaf People in Kenya.
- Not part of Scripture has been translated using Kenya Sign Language up to date.
- There are no films or videos in KSL with a Christian message available.
- Many schools for the Deaf in Kenya were begun by missionaries or church societies. Unfortunately, the Gospel was not communicated to the Deaf students in their heart language, KSL, so that there is little clear understanding of the Good News of Jesus Christ by the Deaf today

Deaf Business training
Unemployment is a big issue among the Kenyan population, and our Deaf brothers and sister are among this population. As part of our integration plan for the year 2022 and to create a positive impact, OneTribe Church organized basic business training in partnership with C.A.S.T Kenya to equip our Deaf community with business skills to enable them to manage their small hustles and start new endeavors. We are excited to announce that the two-part course has been an enormous success equipping over ten people within our deaf community!
